My dad rented a storage unit and asked us if we wanted to use some of the space. We picked up a bunch of boxes and had them sitting flat in our living room. It was like Christmas morning for my kids. Empty boxes=instant fort.

I've been pulling in a few chaotically packed crazy busy days the last two weeks. It was hard. Really. Hard. Sometimes I wanted to cry. Sometimes I did. But I gotta tell you, when it was the most intense and the most busy I really felt a little extra help. It's amazing how/when you feel blessings in your life.

You know those days hubby doesnt make it home in time for dinner, or an even better question, when you know ahead of time he isn't going to be home in time? Do you make a normal meal or do make a 'kid friendly meal'?
I had an epiphany. I've been so concerned with getting a good variety and making good meals. This week I think my kids ate mac & cheese, corndogs and chicken nuggets 4 or 5 out of 7 days and they LOVED it and asked for them again. I know they're not balanced meals but I also realized my kids aren't as concerned as I am with the whole 'variety' issue.

I wonder if people would like it if seasons were like year-round school? On for six weeks off for three weeks. (*I dont really know how year-round works.) I woke up this morning REALLY wanting to wear my cute brown sweater but obviously that wasn't going to happen. However I know after a month of snow I'll be ready for a little warmth again. (I'm a spring/fall kinda gal.) What about you?

Definitely a spring/fall girl. I LOVE fall, however. It's my favorite season. Cute clothes, crisp coolness, and yummy food.
Agree with both of you...I saw rain this morning and lept out of bed! Best thing I have seen in days!
I had never thought of a "year round" schedule for the seasons. I think it would be kind of cool!
P.S. we do a lot of kid friendly meals at my house! Makes life easier sometimes!
I like that idea for year round seasons. That would be awesome.
Sometimes kid friendly meals are the only thing I can do to get them to eat. They are picky and I guess eating something slightly unhealthy is better than not even touching a healthy meal.
I would settle for any seasons at all! Here in Southern California we kind of get spring and summer, and they blur into each other, and there are practically no fall colors at all (I planted one liquidambar tree in my front yard that turns color, and people are always so surprised by it!), and in the winter sometimes we get heat waves. So I really, really miss the seasons.
Big empty boxes are the best! I saw in a catalog the other day a kit for building forts, and I thought, "No way! That's not how you build a fort!"
I am excited for fall, too. Except that it means winter is coming soon after. I wish we could just skip that one.
I am definitely a spring/fall kind of girl too!
And I hear you about the boxes and kids. They can't get enough of them!
Have a great weekend.
xo
I'm a spring/fall girl too. I cannot wait for fall.
And when I know my husband isn't going to be home we have pancakes.
That's cool that you get to put some of your stuff into your parents' storage unit. I know you've been want to have a little more room in your place. :)
I'm a spring/fall person too. I love the winter, but only for so long and it has to have fresh snow to be worth it. Unfortunately, it doesn't snow all the time, so the snow becomes dirty and icky and not worth the cold that winter is. Fall/spring are just fun because the weather's not too hot or cold. You can enjoy wearing shorts, but with a light jackets or sweatshirt and let's face it, April is the best month ever! ;)
Oh-forts are the most fun thing ever! I wish I had a bunch of empty boxes in my living room.
I say ~ cereal ~ when my husband's not home! Seriously on some nights I do! I do cook differently when he's not home - usually lighter somewhat healthier stuff - if the kids don't like it they can have pb&j.
And then there are those days when the kids refuse to eat the corndogs and the chicken nuggets and insist on cold cereal for every meal!
'Kid Friendly' meals seem to work best with Princess Nagger. If I let her, she'd probably eat corn dogs, mac'n'cheese and chicken nuggets every day of the week! :)
I LOVE fall - it's hands-down my most favorite season. :)
Definitely Spring--I like Fall, but I know what's around the corner. Spring energizes me--I love to see the new leaves and all the new "awakenings". My favorite day of the year is Dec. 21st because then the days start getting longer. I also love daylight savings time--just love the light. i can hardly wait for spring....
I'm totally a long sleeve pants kind of girl!!! So I love the fall and like 1/2 of winter... Spring reminds me that I have to put on shorts and TRY to work on a tan... it's hard for me... lol
