Book Academy

This totally got lost in the shuffle but I wanted to be sure to share about this fun event. Last year Olivia and I went to the first Readers and Writers Conference and had a blast.

This year the newly named Book Academy Conference (the end of September) was even better and Liv and I got our friends Meagan and Heather to join us for the day.

I'm just all sorts of impressed with this conference. The price, check in, class topics, teachers, food, it's all just very well put together. Brandon Sanderson gave the keynote address about key elements that make a great story.

We split off to check out our first class. Don't these all sound great? It's just the few I picked to go to.

These are the Jokes, People Becca Wilhite

Don't Talk Like This: Your Voice and Your Character Emily Wing Smith

Writing Action Scenes: How to Keep Your Story Moving Larry Correia

Overcoming Writer's Block Rob Wells

The other fun part about the conference was the mingling and networking. After the conference I was invited to dinner and got to enjoy the company of some great people. Sheila and Shanda from LDS Womens Book Review, Jennifer and her husband J Scott Savage, Robinson Wells, Julie Wright, Don Carey, Krista Jensen, Tristi Pinkston and a few other nice folks that were at the far end or our enormously long table and I didnt get a chance to talk to.

If you haven't believed me yet, I'm telling you, people who read (and write) are fun! I had a great day and I love that my husband is super supportive of my reading hobby. Have you ever gone to a conference?

That sounds like a lot of fun. I really wanted to go. I'm going to try to go one of these times, but I have to make sure it coincides with school and work. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself and got to meet all the people you did.

I remember you wrote about this conference last year. It sounds really fun and great networking and tips. Let me know if there is another one coming up, I need to go to one especially since I've already written a few stories and have yet to submit them. My email address is hkweighsin@gmail.com. Thanks!
