Kids Vote

We all have a voice and a choice. Today I took my daughter along with me to vote. Even though she's four we had a good talk about what people in office do, why it's important to help them, vote for people we think will do good and learn about things happening in our community.

Then she even asked me questions. I'd call it a successful day!

We're going to hold our own family vote tonight when the older one gets home from school. I'm thinking perhaps we'll vote on our favorite Disney character or maybe what we'll have for breakfast tomorrow. Or who knows maybe we'll be really crazy and do a whole bunch.

What do you think we should vote on?

That's cool. I really want to vote, but I'm not going to be able to because my day has been packed with class and work. And then, I have to take a test right after work and won't be done until the polls are closed. :( (I didn't realize I could've voted early. Oh well, I guess.)

The fact that you're having your kids vote on something and get interested in voting reminds me of Freshman for President. So many people are disinterested in voting. I'll admit that I don't always get involved in a lot of the issues, but I still feel likes it's important. I don't think people should be able to complain if they don't vote. So, good for you in getting your kids involved and interested at such a young age.

I think you should have them vote on what activity your family will do one weekend so they can see the cause and effect of voting.

What a good idea. And I agree with the one above---vote one something the kids can see the results of so they can really comprehend how important it is.

great idea, debbie. i love it!

lucas came voting with me this a.m. and got yelled at several different times by the grumpy poll volunteers. "stop opening the door!", "go stand by your mother!", "only voters get a sticker!", "don't touch that!", and "no really, don't touch that!"

ah well, at least they are doing their civi duty.

i think we'll have a family vote too. maybe we'll vote on what to do for thanksgiving. we have no plans and no other family in town to meet up with.

you could vote on who will kill the next spider you find in your house...
