10 Million Strong

Before I left for elementary school in the morning, my mom would give me one of those chewable Flintstones and I'd pop it in my mouth and move it to the side of my cheek. I'd walk out the front door and dislodge it with with my finger and toss it behind the large bushes adjacent to the sidewalk that led from the doorway to the driveway. I was careful about where I threw it because I didn't want my mom to go walking by and see it in the dirt. I don't think I ever told her I disliked them, I guess I just figured it was easier to take it and get rid of it later. I just couldn't bring myself to chew it up though and to me this was the next best idea.

My kids have it way easier!

I'm not trying to be a commercial, I just listened to this song and it made me nostalgic so I thought I'd share...

Any childhood memories of trying to get away with things like me?

I hate steak so when my mom would make it for dinner, I would take bites, chew them up, then pretend to wipe my mouth with my napkin but really spit the chewed up steak in the napkin. Then when it was all in the napkin, I would excuse myself to go to the bathroom and flush it all down the toilet.

I know I did things like that, but I can't think of anything specifically. It only reminds me of a story my dad tells of him doing something as a child.

When he was younger, his mom was big into "spring" cleaning the body. So, she would give each of her children (three) a tablespoon of Sena Lee Tea. My dad likens the taste to caster oil. Anyway, he's always make sure he was the last in the bathroom. By the time, his mom got to him, she'd hand him his tablespoon and walk out of the bathroom. He'd always poor it down the toilet and when she came back to get the spoon, he'd make a funny face like he'd just taken it.

You've reminded me that I need to get vitamins for my daughter. We think she's anemic.

Did you know they make gummy vitamins for adults now?! I just got some from Costco, and I've never been so good about taking my vitamins.

I got really sick from prenatal vitamins so the doc recommended I take the Flintstones Vitamins but take 2 or 3 of them. I kind of hated how they tasted too.

I had a great love for strawberries, and every summer my mom would pack sliced, sweetened strawberrys into half-pint plastic containers and freeze about 50 of them in our freezer. During the year, I would eat almost all of them, without even defrosting them (think sorbet:) and hide the containers under my bed. I don’t know why I thought my mom didn’t have a clue about that, since every so often she would find a stash of 20 or 30 containers under my bed:)

I don't remember doing any of that but my mom has a network of spies that could teach the CIA a thing or two. I never got away with anything.

Yep, my kids will only eat the gummy kind. But they do love them.

That story totally reminds me of Tyler. Paul accidently bought the sugar free vitamins at costco so they are pretty nasty. Paul and I both tasted them and they are pretty gross. But they are so expensive that we still gave them to the kids even though they would gag on them. Well a few weeks into this, maybe months, Tyler would disappear after taking them. I didn't think much of it until one day I emptied a garbage and found some wrapped up in toilet paper. We confronted Tyler and he finally admitted to always putting them somewhere and showed us his other hiding place which was under where the cover for the heater in their room. There were like 10 in there. So needless to say we stopped giving the vitamins to them and will have to maybe get the gummy ones again.

I loved vitamins when I was a kid. Especially the vitamin C kind. They were so good!

And we have gummies at our house too. My kids are the ones who remember to take them, not me!

I was suppose to take fluoride tablets when I was really little. I would always forget. So when I saw that there was still a whole bottle left I thought "My mom will get mad at me if she sees I still have so many" So I took half of the bottle. If I would have been smart like you I would have disposed of them but NO I actually ate them. I think I ended up telling my mom awhile later and she was so mad because I could have gotten sick or worse. Oh well.

The one thing about the gummy vitamins is that the kids need to chew two of them as opposed to the one chewable. We were giving the kids one gummy and then I read the bottle and they are supposed to take two. Makes that jar go awfully quick!
