Tell Me Tuesday: Tricky Speedometer

We own two cars. I forget how nice that is until one of my friends talks about how they have to share their car with the spouse (we sill live in 'College County' where it's generally more the case than not).

Since I have the kids most of the time, my car of choice is the roomier minivan, while hubby opts for the sedan. A few times over the summer though I foundnd myself driving 'hubby's car'.

And not just driving it, but driving it faster. It made me wonder if it was just the size of the car, the fact that I was alone, or just that I felt a rush when driving a little sporty thing with the wind in my hair.

What do you think??

My Car
Dodge Caravan ('03)

Hubby's Car
Honda Accord ('98)

Anyone notice that? What is the purpose of setting up the speedometers like that? My first guess was that the newer cars are set up to possibly 'discourage' speeding. But I haven't been in other cars to test this out.

How do you think this compares to your car(s)?

My car is more set up like your husband's car, and I got it in 2003. I drive fast. There may be a correlation there.

I drive fast whenever I'm in my husbands car also, but I think it has more to do with the fact that I'm alone when I drive it.

So um . . . are you actually taking pictures of the speedometer while driving 75 mph? Just wondering.

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to notice int the two different pictures. Anyway, I speed no matter what car I'm driving. I hate going slow.

HA! I don't know why they are st up that way. My is on 07 and its like your hubbys car. But I speed everywhere. I'm always late (as you know) so I'm always speeding! Ekk!

Makes me want to go look at our van and car speedometers. And your post about TGIF made me laugh. I better not tell you what was on when I watched it. It makes me feel old just thinking about it. :)

My Honda Oddyssey/mini van is set up exactly like your Accord. Probably just the make of the car.

Our cars - both '94 models - look like the Accord speedometer. The Dodge Caravan only goes up to 110, and the Ford Ranger tops out at 85!

Incidentally, both speedometers are off by between 10 and 30 mph, so we let the GPS tell us how fast we're going.

I thought it was funny too that at the top of the speedometer of one it's 50 vs the other it's 80. It's easy for me to just let the needle rest at the top so depending on what car I drive I notice it more.

Debs, I do the same thing when I drive other people's cars. I am more used to the position of the needle than of the numbers. I'm actually surprised there isn't some federal regulation on how the speedometer is set up.
