Tell Me: Your Mom

Tell Me: What's a fun childhood memory you have of yourself with your parents?

When I think of childhood I think of California. My family lived there until I was 9 so my brain compartmentalizes all my memories in 9 year segments.

Often times on the weekend you'd find my family outside playing in the yard. I remember my dad giving us rides in the wheelbarrow. We'd all get to take our own turn being pushed around in the little bucket. While we waited for our turn mom would push us on the swingset or watch as we tried to cross the monkey bars. I love watching old family videos because it just so happens we have a little bit of all of us playing outside together.

One of my favorite memories is going sledding with my dad. We used to go to this hill a few miles from the Purple Turtle in PG (probably not there anymore), or we'd sled somewhere in Sardine canyon. After we went sledding, we'd always drink some yummy hot chocolate afterward.

A lot of my memories of sledding include my dad popping at least one of our inner-tubes each time we went. It was inevitable that it would happen.

What a sweet memory. I remember summers at family reunions with my cousins. Those are some of my favorite memories since I had no siblings it was nice to have this extended family to get to know & interact with.

My dad and mom were getting rid of their water bed, and my dad took the mattress in the backyard, filled it as big as he could go, and put shaving cream all over it. We slid down it for hours. That was awesome.

What a good memory. I hope my kids remember such good things when they're older. I'm always afraid they will only remember the bad stuff, like when they fall out of the cart at the grocery store because I wasn't paying enough attention to catch them....it only happened once, but it was very traumatizing to both of us.

How fun---I'm jealous you have videos. We never did those growing up.

i have a lot of fun memories, but we had fun over Thanksgiving teasing my mom about some questionable parenting choices. For instance, the time we rode all the way from Northern California to Mesa, Arizona in the back of a pickup truck (and got blistered with sunburn in the process) or the time my mom let me date the 26-year-old when I was a senior in high school. Hahahaha!

One of my favorite memories is when I would bake with my mom. I had a miniature apron that fit me just right. I would help my mom make a pie and with the leftover crust she would let me make a mini pie. I think about that every time I'm baking.

A good memory I have of my parents is riding horses with them in the gully for family picnics.

I think of running around with bare feet all day long and not even worrying that it was over hundred degrees and I was burning my feet! Now I can't walk anywhere without shoes!!!

The wheelbarrow ride is a great memory with your dad!

I was a very high stressed out kid especially when it came to school- I had to have perfect grades. My mom would "force" me to go to the movies with her & have fun. It always worked!

My dad fell asleep on the floor in the family room so my sister and I got our bucket of hair bows and tied them all in his hair. He didn't wake up, even when mom took pictures of us and our handiwork!
