Two Great Choices

So I have a little chunk of change from graduation gifts and I've been trying to figure out what to do with it. At first I wanted to do a girls trip to NY. While I plenty of people who were very interested I couldn't find anyone who could actually go with me (financially, take time off work, etc).

So I started thinking of what else to do. I had pretty much settled on the idea that I'd take the hubs and kids on a trip to Southern California. Maybe do a few days at Disneyland, a day at Sea World, the beach, perhaps the zoo. And the thing is, hubby could easily take the time so it'd be perfect!

However just earlier this week I got the brilliant idea of perhaps one other option that actually tickled my fancy. LASIK eye surgery. Oh man. Now I dont know what to do! They both sound so appealing and so great.

I'm a little nervous to actually get the surgery. And what if it doesn't go right? And we did just go to Disneyland last year (but we went with my extended family so this could be our chance to do our own trip and if we dont do it now it may not be fore another 5 yrs). And then again there is good things on both sides obviously.

Pros and cons anyone?

PS I am reading and LOVING your comments. Sorry I haven't been responding as quickly as I'd like to. But please know I've REALLY appreciated all of you stopping by and all of your lovely comments. I promise to be better next week!

LASIK LASIK LASIK. Seriously-it's the best thing I ever did! I can't tell you how wonderful it is to wake up in the morning and be able to see your alarm clock. To not have to worry about contact solution, or rubbing your eyes so much you push your contact up your eyelid. The surgery is THE easiest thing ever. Zero pain. They give you eye drops to numb your eyes and that's it! NO needles or anything. You heal so fast and you can see!!

Plus, I think Disneyland and the beach are hugely over-rated:)

i'd go w/ lasik as well. actually,i've thought about using our tax return for this. But, i'm kind of scared i'll be the one in a million to go blind. you'd think after 3 c-sections i wouldn't be scared of surgery.

Lasik does sound nice. Especially as I;m driving down I-15, trying to get some dirt out of my contacts.

I would go with Lasik. The trip sounds fun, but how often will you have to money to pay for Lasik? Do a consultation at least. They can tell if you're even a candidate. That will help make your decision for you if you're not a good candidate. ;)

i would pick lasik too. in a second, hands-down, no thought required. (i have no experience with it, but it's on my list of things i want but don't have enough saved for yet).

the trip with the fam: you can make memories hundreds of ways that don't require as much money.

i'd love to know what you decide, and if you go for lasik tell me all about it.

As much as I love to travel and see places, I think I would love to be able to see them with out my glasses. So I would say lasik.

Oh man, my LASIK surgery was the best thing I ever did. And I WAS NOT prepared to do it.

After our honeymoon we had a reception in CA & Scott's parents said as a wedding present they would get us both Lasik (his dad is an optometrist who works with ophthalmologists who do it). I was like, NO WAY. But I was almost legally blind w/o glasses & it gets expensive with glasses & contacts, & SUCH a pain when traveling or spending the night anywhere.

Anyway, I can tell you all about my experience but I am SOOOOO glad I did it. Let's chat about it sometime!

My husband and I are taking serious consideration into getting Lasik done. I'd love to be able to see without poking my finger in my eye first.

Here's the thing that keeps me from really going for Lasik - what if you don't get it quite right, or what if your eyes change more? It would suck to do the surgery only to end up in glasses again. Of course, my prescription has changed every other year for the past 15 years, so...

You know I'm a huge fan of Disneyland. I vote for that. But I think Lasik is a great option too if you decide you want it.

Debbie - I think you should go on a trip. But instead of Disnyeland, think Washington. I'm serious. There is a lot of beautiful things to do and see. And we would love to see you guys.

I think both things are worth while things to do. But if you do the Lasik, the next time you go to Disneyland (or anywhere) on vacation you can enjoy it just that much more!
I hope you enjoy which ever one you choose! And happy graduation!

pre- or post- marriage, (since I'm still single) LASIK is the best choice I've ever made in my life... I could go on for days about it, so if you're really curious, I will give you my number and we can chat on the phone... so much easier than typing... honestly, it is the scariest thing I've ever done in my whole life, I was super freaked out... but I am so glad I did it. I love being able to wake up in the middle of the night and see... I love not having to fiddle with contacts when I'm half asleep in the morning or late for work. I love not having to ever wear my glasses when I'm sick or my contacts are not cooperating (or because I accidentally dump my contacts down the drain, yes I have done that!)

NOW, it is definitely not without side effects... I suffer from chronic dry eye, but I knew that going into the surgery... I will admit, the first month was HORRIBLE... (allergy season made it even worse)... luckily there are good prescription eye drops available... they are pricey, but far less than a year supply of contacts. So I guess for me that is the only downside... but after doing "drop-therapy" for a while, it has gotten so much better... I rarely have dry eye issues anymore.

DISNEYLAND...but that's just me! =)

I love, love, love Disneyland, but everyone I know who has had LASIK surgery has been thrilled with the results. That might be one of the few things that actually trumps Disneyland.

Perfect vision is SO overrated. DISNEYLAND! Go to Disneyland!

Guess what! I'm running the Disneyland 5K and Dan is running the Disneyland 1/2 marathon in September. I'm so excited!

I'd totally go with Lasik, but that might be because I am currently trying to figure out a way to get it done also. Or maybe its because the crowds at disneyland scare me...I don't know.

I had Lasik years ago and it was (and continues to be) fantastic. But, whatever you choose will be fine.... go with your gut.

Disneyland is crowded and icky. I live right next to Disneyland and I do not understand the attraction. It is so expensive and memories can be made anywhere and some where more creative.

If you want to see a lot of overweight people with fanny packs, go to Disneyland. Of course, you could just take off your glasses.

Tough call! I don't have eye issues, so I'm for Disneyland! Though, I know if my husband had the choice he'd choose Lasiks! He HATES not being able to see... I can't say I blame him...

So, get Lasik now, and over the next few years save the money you would have spent on contacts/glasses. Then use that money to go to Disneyland when your kids are tall enough to ride all the fun rides. It's a win win situation because you won't get stuck riding the Pinocchio ride all day! :)

Lasik. I've had it done and I'd do it again in a heart beat. Plus Lasik lasts a whole lot longer than a trip to Disneyland (yeah, I know, memories & family bonding time) but that money is for you. So spoil yourself and do something just for you. When will you have that kind of opportunity again. Plus, if you're not a good candidate for the surgery, they will let you know.
