The giant black box

I'm not so much a tv gal as I am a movie gal. I'd say on average I watch a movie a day. Every time I say that it sounds a bit excessive, but I figure people are watching an hour or two of tv shows so I'm probably right on par with the rest of ya crazies. Right? Right?

Here are a few of our favorite movies that you might not have heard of:

Iron Giant
Saints and Soldiers
Big Fish
Cats Don't Dance (video below)

Any movies you're particularly fond of?
Any movies you think I should try out?
Any movies you think are superb that people might not have heard of?

Oh and I forgot to mention...my hubby was an extra in Saints and Soldiers.

We are kind of addicted to Bedtime Stories right now. It changes weekly. Last week it was Karate Kid.

I still haven't seen Saint and Soldiers---but it's on my list. Have you ever seen Son of Rambow? It's an excellent movie.

I've heard of them!

We like watching Enchanted. Yes, even Mr. Black Sneakers. It's the only musical/chickflick like movie that he'll admit to liking. I think we saw it, went out and got it the next day and watched it. Then popped it in a few days later to watch it again. Never gets old...

Another we'll watch over and over again is V for Vendetta (edited cuz I think it's R). We had both seen it before, then watched it on our first real date. We've seen it many times since. In fact we want to name our first girl after the main character.

We are addicted to House. And we have to watch any/all Disney movies. Because we have a two year old. Also anything PBS, and my husband likes somethings on PBS. And we watch movies, once a week, on the big TV.

I randomly like the PELICAN BRIEF. Totally random & PRIDE & PREJUDICE (the BBC & the new movie one). For TV we like a lot of random shows- Castle, Survivor, Lost.

Will I be stoned if I admit I haven't seen any of those films? I'm on a Night at the Roxbury and My Big Fat Greek Wedding kick right now. When there is nothing on..I throw those on and go about my business!

I've actually seen all the movies you mentioned except the cat one, I'll have to add it to my netflix. I love getting independent movies that I've never heard of cause you never know when your gonna find a gem. Scott hates it, but I am a movie lover, and will pretty much watch anything. I'd love to challenge you and your husband to scene it sometime, if we're ever in the same place at the same time.
For TV, I generally like sitcoms (monday nights on cbs are the best), and of course Scott and I are both embarrassingly HUGE Lost fans.

I've seen one of those movies. I bet you can guess which one. ;)

I've wanted to see Saints and Soldiers, though. I just never have. Corey has, though.

Corey and I really like Big Trouble. A lot of people didn't watch it when it was released because they thought it looked stupid. It's hilarious! I highly recommend it.

The movies you can tell we like are the movies we quote often. Those are:

Futurama (it's a movie; well, there are four of them; but you know that already)
Big Trouble
Galaxy Quest
So I Married an Axe Murderer

I know there are lots more, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.

I'm sure you've already seen all my favorite movies. But I'm very fond of She's All That (it's old). 17 Again was fun too.

I am not a big movie watcher. My problem is I watch them and an hour later I can't remember what the name of the main character was.

That said, my favorite movies are girly type movies - The Devil Wears Prada, Legally Blonde, The Holiday.

So many to choose from! Since you like Saints and Soldiers, and I know Tarl likes WWII stuff, 'Band of Brothers' is an amazing mini series, we own it. One of my favorite indie movies is 'Sliding Doors' with Gwyneth Paltrow, it's really good.

So I would recommend those to ya! (Sorry, I sent it before I could say put them on your Netflix if you haven't seen them!)

I love stupid romantic comedies... like How to Lose a Guy in 10 days... and 10 things I hate about you...

maybe I just like movies with 10 in them? huh?

Sadly, I am such an impatient person that I can hardly stand to watch a movie more than once. I feel bad about this, but I can't seem to change it.

If you've watched a movie nearly every day then you almost certainly have seen everything I have. The ones I've re-watched this summer and really loved:

God Grew Tired Of Us (a documentary, but highly recommended. We got ours through Netflix)

The Count of Monte Cristo
beautiful cinematography, delicious actors, and a classic story

Jumper
Mr. Coleman talked me into this one, but I really did like it, despite a lot of violence. Really cool idea.

I like to watch movies, but unless I'm doing something else (folding laundry, etc.) I'm afraid I don't stay awake for too many of them anymore. Too many of the movies these days though have "just one scene" or what not and they're not even worth watching, despite the cute plot or what not.
One people may not have heard of (I hadn't until my parents gave it to us) but is amazing is The Ultimate Gift. We love it. There're also a couple put out by a batpist group or something that are really good: Fireproof and Facing the Giants. They're kind of cheesy, not overly religious, but have great messages.
One I saw with my mom awhile back that was really cute that I hadn't heard of was Sydney White. It has Amanda Bynes in it and is a spin-off of Snow White.
I love chick-flicks but occasionally let Adam talk me into watching a "boy movie" as we call them. I like A Beautiful Mind and We are Marshall. The Day After Tomorrow is also pretty good.

I love movie! All kinds... the more I can fit in a week after the kids are in bed, the better! I'd much rather watch a well developed 2 hour story line than a quick 30 minute sitcom.
Some of my favs that I can watch over and over:
Hitch
Pride & Prejudice (either version)
National Treasure
most Pixar movies
Lord of the Rings (all 3)
To Catch a Thief
Wait Until Dark
Doctor Who (just get about 1/2 way through season 1 and you'll be hooked!)
My favs that are good every now and again:
Life is Beautiful
Ka Hol Na Ho (Bollywood is fab!!)
Eagle Eye
Brice and I cracked up at Ghost Town (there are 2 big f-bombs though!)
Cranford- a hilarious period BBC miniseries
Castle- it's a TV show but season 1 comes out on dvd in a few weeks

There's more, but I've gone on long enough! Happy movie watching! :)

Did you ever see Martian Child? That's a cute one we saw recently. We watched Valkayrie recently too. I think you guys would dig it, WWII and all. Anthony rented that one when I wanted to see Shopaholic. Boys.

That is a lot of movies! I have to admit, I LOVE TV shows. I haven't been allowing myself very many... but I love them. I love Tivo. Like, I would marry it, if I weren't already married.

Movies. I love Dances With Wolves. I had a real thing for Kevin Costner, although I don't think he is aging very well. Not like me, anyway ;-)

Groundhog Day. I just love it. Don't know why.

While You Were Sleeping.

Pride and Prejudice.

I love war movies as well. Loved Saints and Soldiers. Loved the whole Band of Brothers miniseries.

I also enjoy action/adventure guy movies... like back in the day, when DK and I used to watch R-rated movies (a really long time ago) I could watch Die Hard over and over and over and over... and when it comes on TV, I do:)
