I remember when I was little every now and then on Saturday mornings my dad would take me and my sisters to the bowling alley. After a great morning he'd then take us over to the donut shop for a scrumptious breakfast.
Or more often my dad would work in the yard and take my sisters and I for rides in the wheelbarrow or on the dolly.
Right now our family is doing the Saturday morning cartoons but only be default. Haha.
I thought it' be fun to come up with some ideas to implement into my young family. So lovely readers, share with my your favorite memories or what you do now that makes Saturday special or fun for your family??

About once a year we would go up to the mountains and cook breakfast up there then play for a while. That was always a great memory and a fun tradition.
Sam takes the boys for donuts. They love it! That's why Kid B learned to say "donut" before "mommy".
Like I said on Facebook we have one big Saturday activity a month, then 2 Saturday's daddy goes on special dates alone with each kid (which means in turn I get special alone time with one of them too).
When I was little my dad used to take me to McDonalds for breakfast every Saturday so my mom could sleep in (I blame him for my thighs!)
Also, like I said I've been trying to get the house clean, clean, clean on Saturday, clean, make phone calls and do everything I need to on the computer so we can be all ready for Sunday.
I think I might like that doughnut idea a tad too much... yummy!
Scones from sconecutter. Just wonderful. . .
Wow-I'm kinda sad that I can't think of any... Maybe that's cuz we already have FHE on Sundays and Family Activity on Mondays and my parents didn't want to push it:)
When I was young, my dad would go and get us Dunkin' Donuts every Saturday. Nowadays, the kids love Saturdays because they get to have 'sugar' cereal! :)
We also bribe them with a fun activity if they can get their chores done by a certain time, preferably before noon. I feel really lame writing this, we need to be more creative!
When I was little, I'd always watch Saturday Morning cartoons with my older sisters and then by myself once they left the house. I always loved doing that.
One of my favorite memories, not necessarily on a Saturday but usually, was when my dad and I would ride our bikes to the closest Baskin Robbins and get an ice cream. It was always so much fun.
I also love to ride my bike on Saturdays when the weather's nice. I'd love to ride my bike with Corey, but alas, we're waiting until we can afford a recumbent bike for him.
The one I remember was my dad's pancakes, and classical music. That wouldn't go over so well with my family (the classical music part--haha!). The other thing I remember was the list of chores my mom would hand out to each of us kids... YIKES! Lately I have been sending my kids with their dad to Costco on Saturdays, leaving me the house to myself. I have to admit, it is not a bad way to go:)
Our kids and grand kids love to go to the deli for breakfast-- as long as we're paying :-)
As a kid, my folks always made a big breakfast that we all sat around the dining room table and enjoyed-- talking about our week. We have a big family- 2 dozen eggs would be fried and an tire loaf of bread toasted. YUM :-)
Thanks for the memories. xo
We used to go skating - it was so much fun :)
This has nothing to do with traditions, but I just have to tell you that I wasted my entire pregnancy by not eating one donut. I don't eat donuts because they have to many calories, but while I was pregnant I told myself that I was going to get a Krispy Kreme donut (just one) and I never did. Oh well, I'm having a hard enough time losing the weight I don't need that too. :)
I wish we had good memory making saturday morning traditions. Right now, we don't. It tends to be a free for all at my house.
My dad loved to make breakfast. Pancakes, french toast, "real" egg mcmuffins, eggs....and he didn't just do it on Saturdays. But most Saturdays he'd make breakfast, then we'd all work on the house. Chores and what not. We'd be done by lunch so we could go to Sam's Club. Not kidding. We'd eat samples at Sam's for lunch while we shopped, and sometimes got lunch from the cafe if the samples hadn't cut it for us. Then we'd usually hit the Kohl's clearance racks for another hour or so.
My own little family has no Saturday traditions. We used to get pizza, but not so much anymore. We need to come up with some good Saturday traditions!
Great post!
Growing up, we'd watch Saturday morning cartoons, and Dad would make pancakes. We'd beg for him to make Mickey Mouse pancakes, or chocolate chip pancakes, or have special fruity syrups. Didn't usually get any of that, but we'd beg anyway.
Now, we don't have any Saturday traditions. But I'm thinking those donuts look so good, I ought to make that our Saturday tradition.
Isn't that funny that you have fond memories of the Saturday morning chores? Just proves it doesn't matter what you do if you have the energy to be creative and make it fun. (And an entry please)
I remember a lot when I was younger going to Air shows since my dad was in the Air Force. My dad would give my mom a break and take all of us kids to the bases to watch planes or see the one on display. I thought they were really cool but it also scared me. Now with our own kids we never have a set thing we do on Saturday but a lot of the time it is doing something fun with daddy since he usually was busy the whole week.
Hmmm...I actually don't have any saturday traditions. But I totally want some! Now Sunday, I started making grilled cheese and soup after church. Mainly because I never know what to make for lunch and 2 it's super easy to remember. It's happened twice in a row now. I hope that it lasts. :D
Those donuts look delicious!
Right now, we are really enjoying going rock collecting as a family. We all like it, so it's a great memory maker.
atruday morning we always have a big breakfast with eggs, bacon etc etc etc... its late so like brunch
